How is The Best better?

The name is a bit tongue-in-cheek,
but Anna Best takes her work very seriously.

You deserve to feel at ease. Most offer 60 min. appointments, with 50 minutes hands-on if you are lucky. We allow a more relaxed time frame. You feel more at ease as we learn about your unique situation. And trust that you will get the hands-on time you crave.

Each appointment is 15 minutes longer than the “hands-on” time. This allows time for intake and consultation, and 60, 90, or 120 minutes on the table

Advanced Tools & Add-ons

After doing math by hand for years, remember how it felt when someone handed you a graphing calculator? Tools let us get more done efficiently.

These dynamic tools soften stiff tissue and allow better access to stubborn problem spots. Super effective. Plus they feel amazing.

Hot Stones - Skin, muscle, and fascia soften under heat and pressure. We cup the stones in the palm of our hands as we massage. Cold stones also available upon request.

Scraping - Evolved from gua sha, this instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation (IASTM) uses specialized tools in direct, compressive friction strokes. It encourages breakdown of adhesions at the cellular level and kickstarts the repair process.

Cupping - Creating a gentle vacuum on the skin encourages circulation and stimulates the repair process. Light pressure is used for moving cups across the skin. Increased pressure is used when we allow cups to linger on problem areas.

About
Anna Best

When you feel better, you can be better — kinder, stronger,
more resilient.

My mission is to look below the surface, find problems, and promote healing. Through my diverse professional tapestry, that is the connecting thread. I want to understand, so that I can protect natural systems.

As a kid, I peeked under logs to catch critters. As a geologist, I read the layers of rocks to understand their history and protect the Earth’s natural systems. As an environmental scientist, I tested water and soil to treat contamination and protect public health. As a landscape designer, I analyzed each site to find the most ecologically sound way to enhance its beauty as a human habitat supporting wildlife. As an ecological restoration designer, I analyzed failing streams and wetlands to rebuild stable, healthy stream, wetland, and forest habitats.

At age 40, I felt called to leap into massage therapy—a different field entirely—but my mission was my anchor. Look below the surface, protect what’s working well, find the source of problems, promote healing, and support healthy living.

As a massage therapist, I look deeply at each person’s body to understand problematic patterns, and help the body heal itself. I see what’s already moving well, warm it up, and then get out of its way. I identify problems like pain, weakness, limited range of motion, injuries, and scar tissue. Then I treat the body’s soft tissues to address the source of the problem, reduce discomfort and improve quality of life.

Got Stubborn Spots? Tools Help.

After doing math by hand for years, remember how it felt when someone handed you a calculator? Tools let us get more done efficiently.

Not a Knot

The common term “knots” is misleading and we avoid using it. Muscles are not string, and they never get tangled or tied. These are adhesions.

When muscles and fascia become dehydrated and tense, blood and lymph can’t circulate well. The muscle fibers and sheets of fascia that surround them should slide smoothly past each other, with plenty of fluid to flush through and take out the metabolic waste. Dehydrated, these become more like velcro, clinging to each other and making movement difficult. That’s an adhesion. It can feel like a taut band or a stiff lump that feels tender but satisfying when pressed.

Ask your massage therapist how to deal with these uncomfortable spots. (Hint: Drink water. More than you think.)
